A place of her own to live a good life

Manu* is a 44-year-old Maori woman. She called LinkPeople when she was drug and alcohol respite in South Auckland.

The recent loss of two children deeply hurt Manu and her family and led to her separating from her husband of 20 years. Manu also had an alcohol addiction and was at risk of suicide.

She was unemployed, had no tenancy history and had a criminal conviction – all creating barriers to the private rental market.

You stuck by my side and helped me keep going even when I wanted to give up.

Manu met with LinkPeople where she explained that she wanted a place of her own. She wanted somewhere she could have peace and quiet.

With our help, she found an affordable home that she loves, in a quiet area and close to public transport so she can attend her wellness appointments and visit family. Manu said she wanted to live a good life.

“You stuck by my side and helped me keep going even when I wanted to give up. This was the first time I made a goal plan and succeeded. My life is different now and I am happy.”
